What is a Miniature American Shepherd?
Only a purebred, AKC dog, can be a Mini American Shepherd (MAS). When AKC first started registering MAS, the Australian Shepherd owners did not want to be known for different sizes, so AKC changed the name.
Are MAS the same as a Miniature Australian Shepherd?
A Toy or Miniature Australian Shepherd is not registered with AKC, usually they are registered with ASDR (American Stock Dog Registry) or MASCA (Mini Australian Shepherd Club). These registries are not as stringent on the rules as AKC.
